Fast-growing leafy kale (also known as fodroskel) is a so-called superfood. Its high nutrient and vitamin content is well exploited when used fresh in healthy vegetable smoothies and smoothies. Our special selection includes the classic 'Halbhoher Grüner Krauser' with its strong curl, the purple-leaved 'Scarlett' and the good old palm-leaved 'Nero di Toscana'. These are prolific varieties, which can be eaten fresh or steamed, or frozen. It is not particular about soil type, preferring a sunny spot. To avoid soil-borne diseases, do not plant where cabbage was previously grown. A good starter for broad beans, carrots, spinach or salad greens. Frost tolerant down to -15°C, can be harvested until March in milder winters. It becomes sweeter after frost because the starch in the leaves is converted into sugar.
