Spotted vine moth (Lobesia botrana)

It is a common vine pest in Hungary, with three generations of vine pests per year. It is usually found together with the saddle vine moth. It overwinters under the bark of the vines in the form of pupae.

Package contains: 1 roof, 3 adhesive bottoms, 3 dispensers

Feed plant:

3 dips: 3 dowels, 3 bunches of corms

Composition:

Caterpillars of the first generation, clustering parts of the bunches to form buds, berriesThe first caterpillars of the first generation destroy the buds, berries and berry buds and may cause complete death of parts of the bunch. The second generation caterpillars chew into the ripening grains and although their direct damage is not significant, the chewed berries open the way to botrytis rot.

Life history:

Overwinters in the form of pupae under the bark of vines. The first generation begins to emerge at the end of April. The second generation starts to shoot from the end of June, the third from mid-August. The first and second swarming is usually more vigorous. The third swarming is of variable intensity. The female moths lay their eggs on the clusters. The larvae have a greenish-grey body and a yellow head.

Advice for control:

First control should be carried out immediately after the first peak of swarming with a long-lasting product. The first swarming peak should be followed by an effective control with a short-acting product in the vicinity of the second swarming peak, before the third swarming peak.At this point, no further spraying is necessary and the fruit and the environment are no longer contaminated during ripening.

Pheromone trapping:

It is advisable to set traps from mid-April onwards, so that their swarming and the exact time of control can be well determined. Replace dispensers and adhesive sheets every 6-7 weeks, preferably not near the expected swarming peak as shown in the diagram.

Check the traps twice a week. Pheromone traps are highly selective in catching vine pests Count the number of moths caught in a given period and record. From the data you can see the drawing dynamics and determine the time of intervention. If the trap captures few moles even during the empirical swarming peaks, this indicates a low infestation. In such cases, by placing a few additional traps in small gardens, moths can be captured and the populationpopulation can be controlled without spraying, thus sparing our environment.
