From India and China, this popular garden shrub grows to 2-3 m tall. It produces cup-shaped flowers from July to September, which give the plant great ornamental value when in flower. Interestingly, it closes its flowers at night.
It is not a very demanding plant and is well adapted to the local climate. It grows best when planted in a sunny spot. It is drought tolerant when conditions allow, but can also tolerate higher soil water.
It can be planted as a specimen or as a hedge.
