Leaf blades are narrow, with intact margins, bluish green and finely mottled at 5 mm. Flowers are small, fragrant, yellow-petalled, with numerous conspicuous stamens. They are clustered in globular heads, which are arranged in shoot-end clusters. They open in late winter and early spring. The fruit is flat, 7.5 cm long, green, bluish-green, with a brown pod when ripe.
