Foliar and bunch protection against black rot from flowering to maturity.

The authorisation for the placing on the market and use of the fungicide Talentum 20 EW containing the active substance myclobutanil is withdrawn by the Authorised Authority with effect from 31 May 2021. The Authorising Authority grants a grace period for the distribution and use of existing stocks in the supply chain as follows. Use of the product is authorised until 30 November 2022.

In grapes, it is recommended to start preventive control of powdery mildew based on forecasts. After major infestations in the previous year, spraying should start at the beginning of flowering and be repeated every 10-14 days depending on the development of the infestation. In the event of an outbreak, a higher dose is recommended and the product should be used in rotation or in combination with the fungicide meptyldinocap. Treatments against black rot are recommended up to 3 times at 10-14 day intervals after the flower caps have fallen.

In apples and pears, treatments against both scab and powdery mildew should be started preventively on a forecast basis and continued at intervals of 7-10 days depending on the severity of the infection. When used against scab, it is advisable to combine it with a contact active product Manfil® 75 WG. It is not recommended to use the product more than 3 times in a growing season. It is effective against apple powdery mildew on its own, but in an epidemic situation in mildew susceptible varieties it should be combined with a sulphur active product e.g. Cosavet® DF Edge. Depending on the severity of the infection, treatments may be repeated at 7-10 day intervals.

In Meggy and Cherry, control of moniliaceous shoot and flower infection should be started at white bud stage, and in case of high infection pressure, repeated at full flowering and at the end of flowering. In order to prevent moniliaceous blight, it is advisable to control the disease by a further application before harvest in case of rainfall or hail. The effect can be enhanced by a tank combination of contact products such as Manfil® 75 WG. The maximum number of applications per growing season is 3.

In field-grown peppers, tomatoes, aubergines, courgettes and cucumbers, it is recommended to start mildew control treatments after the initial symptoms appear and to repeat the treatment with a spray cycle of 7-12 days. In indoor production, the effectiveness of control can be increased by removing infected plants and by regular aeration. For reliable protection against powdery mildew in strawberries and currants, it is recommended to apply the product at flower bud emergence, early flowering and main flowering.

In field strawberries and currants at a dose of 0,45 l/ha, in shoot strawberries at a dose of 0,3 l/ha. In ornamentals, treatments against powdery mildew should be started after the initial symptoms appear and repeated depending on the severity of the infestation.

Mode of action
In the presence of the active substance myclobutanil, the ergosterol biosynthesis of the fungi is blocked, so that the fungal cell membrane cannot be properly constructed. As a consequence, further growth of the harmful fungi is stopped. Once on the surface of the leaf, it is immediately absorbed through the skin tissue and then, once in the water circulation, it is evenly distributed throughout the plant and protects it from the inside.
