Evergreen species of lily-like evergreen with a varied appearance, native to Australia. Its fleshy, strap-like leaves are 60cm long and have a bluish-green tinge. It produces star-shaped, pale purple flowers 2-3cm long in loose clusters in early to mid summer. The roots will be 2-3cm wide, the rhizomes are edible even raw. Height max. 30-45cm.
It prefers well drained sandy, peaty soil, warm and sheltered sunny growing areas. Very easy to grow. It has the characteristic of smelling strongly of vanilla on hot summer days!
For best growth, fertilize and water frequently.
For winter, pick up the rhizomes and overwinter in a cool place.

They are clump-forming, with straight thin to long strap-like leaves. Flowers are white or purple, with 6 petalled fringed edges, yellow and purple stamens. Inflorescences are racemose.
