A well-known, very popular and widely cultivated deciduous shrub or small tree, originally native to Mesopotamia. It has small leaves and a large round red fruit which is edible and juicy.
The fruit is harvested between September and December. It flowers in spring and summer, with a variety of flower colours, ranging from orange to red.

Rich in vitamins, especially vitamin C, potassium and calcium and a source of flavonoids.
Its regular consumption has antihypertensive and anticoagulant effects, reduces cholesterol levels and slows the growth of cancer cells. It has positive effects against cardiovascular disorders and inflammatory diseases.

PUNICA:
A genus in the pomegranate family (Punicaceae), comprising two species of small deciduous fruit-bearing trees. Their simple leaves are lance-shaped.

Minimum temperature. Germination is easy.

Cultivation:
Plant in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil in a sunny spot. Prune back at the end of winter.
