Introducing the rain gauge:
A precipitation gauge is a device, usually cylindrical, used to measure the amount of precipitation falling. Precipitation is measured in whole millimetres and tenths of millimetres. 1 mm of precipitation per square metre is equal to 1 litre of water (e.g. 0.1 mm of precipitation = 1 dl, 10 mm of precipitation = 10 litres, etc.).) The receiving surface of the rain gauge must be 1 m above the ground.
Precipitation is measured daily, or hourly for larger amounts.
