Characteristics of Etna chilli peppers:
A very hot ornamental pepper, suitable for growing in pots!
Suitable for growing in pots, forming a 40 cm high bush. The fruit is conical, erect, 3-4 cm long, very hot and red when ripe. Disease resistant.
Requirements of Etna chilli peppers:
Soil requirements:
Likes well-drained, medium-textured, nutrient-rich soil.
Light and temperature requirements:
Heat tolerant, requires temperatures above 30°C in summer, but does not like scorching sun, plant in partial shade or in an area with diffused light.
Water requirements:
Prefers even watering (drip irrigation).
Growing Etna chilli peppers:
Sowing:
Chili pepper seeds are sown in mid-January to early February, and the seedlings are grown in a grower until after the spring frosts.
Germination temperature, emergence:
Between 22°C and 28°C germination takes a week; at variable temperatures germination is prolonged and sluggish.
Planting:
Seedlings can be planted out in early to mid-May, after spring frosts have passed.
Harvesting:
Peppers ripen in September-October.
