For many, a work on farming implies a set of basic assumptions. The book tries to meet these expectations by providing basic conceptual and calculation knowledge. Farm management, in turn, presupposes the expectations of a changing world. Today it is difficult to imagine the application of the principle of sustainability without organic farming. It would also be strange to think of a modern world without mention of rural tourism, or to think of the indispensable role of farm advisory services in EU farming. We have combined knowledge from these areas in our latest book on farm management. We have no secret intention of making this book part of a new series. If only because we have a separate chapter on future EU policy and its tangible changes, which may change in the years ahead. Written in 2011, it draws together the knowledge that is now available. It is likely that the changing world will create new challenges. The goals of the future cannot be achieved without knowledge of the present. Our theoretical foundations will help us to navigate the evolving economic issues and to answer new questions.
