Introduction to the Stuttgart onion:
The Stuttgarti chemical-free onion is a long-established, mainly home-grown variety. It is a well storable variety that produces large bulbs. The bulbs are flat, white fleshed and have a yellow skin. The growing season is medium long. It has a pleasantly pungent flavour and provides a harmonious taste in salads and cold dishes.

Growing Stuttgart onions:
Different growing techniques for producing green onions and storage onions.
Green onions:
Planted in very deep (up to 10 cm), very compactly in porous soil. It can safely go in a semi-shaded place and be given plenty of water until harvesting.
Growing storage onions:
Plant shallowly (2-3 cm) and sparsely (5-7 cm), always in a fully sunny spot. Do not over-water and do not water the bulb from the beginning of the bloom, and if the foliage does not start to yellow and dry back, trample it to start the full reabsorption of nutrients into the bulb.

'Poke' at 25-30 cm row spacing, 8-10 cm stem spacing and 3 cm deep.
Harvesting:
Harvest continuously from early May for green onions, suitable for cooking onions when more developed in June-July. Green stems can be picked for winter storage after the green stems have dried. Store in a cool, dry place.
