Dr. Károly Petrich summarized the results of his more than four decades of research work in a study entitled The Lepidoptera of the Venetian Landscape, based mainly on his own collections and research. This work, with an introduction outlining the natural geography of the Venetian landscape, contains a detailed description of the ecological and faunistic conditions of the region's butterfly fauna. The species list of almost 2 000 species of butterflies and the rich illustrations of the most characteristic species and their habitats make this work a monograph on the butterflies of the Lake District of Venice. In recognition of his life's work, the Board of the Hungarian Society of Insectology has awarded the author the silver degree of the Imre Frivaldszky Medal.
