General characteristics of leeks:
The leek is a perennial plant, also found as a wild plant in Mediterranean countries. It is a very healthy plant, very high in B vitamins, and also contains mineral salts and a lot of iron. There are summer, autumn and winter varieties of leeks. Leeks can be grown as two perennials, which means that in the first year only the leaves will grow and in the second year they will produce a large globular flower.

Characteristics of the overwintering variety:
