Sportnem-H can be used for the biological control of passerine beetle larvae (pajors) on sports fields and larger intensive grass areas.

Scientific name: Heterorhabditis bakteriophora

Beneficial organism: Beneficial nematodes

Type: Natural enemy

What can I use it against?

Insects (Coleoptera):

- Weevils (Curculionidae): Black vine weevil ( Otiorhynchus sulcatus ) and other Otiorhynchus spp.

- White grubs (Scarabaeidae): European chafer ( Amphimallon majale ); summer chafer/junior chafer ( Amphimallon solstitialis ); Amphimallon aestivus ; Common chafer ( Melolontha melolontha ); Garden chafer (Phyllopertha horticola ); Phyllophaga species; Welsh beetle ( Hoplia philanthus ) and other Hoplia species; Japanese beetle ( Popilia japonica ); Oriental beetle ( Anomala orientalis ); Asian garden beetle ( Autoserica castanea ); Dune potted beetle ( Anomala dubia ); Brown potted beetle ( Serica brunnea ); Anoxia villosa

- Dung beetles ( Aphodius spp. )

How it works

Mechanism of action

Heterorhabditis bacteriophora is a useful nematode species often used in biological pest control . They are microscopic roundworm parasites and are known to be effective in killing a variety of insect pests. Heterorhabditis bacteriophora nematodes infect their hosts by entering through natural openings or through the cuticle. Once inside the host, they release symbiotic bacteria, typically of the genus Photorhabduswhich multiply rapidly and cause septicaemia, eventually killing the host within a few days. This species is particularly effective against insect pests such as beetle larvae (including grubs). Heterorhabditis bacteriophora nematodes are usually released on the soil. This biological control method is a natural and environmentally friendly approachpest control in agriculture and horticulture.

Visual effect

Infested pests in the root zone turn red or brown, but rapid decomposition makes them difficult to locate

Product description

Package size 2500 million - 10 sachets of 250 million each in a box.

Development stage Infective third instar larvae (L3).

Concentration 86% Heterorhabditis bacteriophora - 14% inert, biodegradable carrier.

Instructions for use

Preparation

- Remove sachets from the box and keep at room temperature for 30 minutes

- Wash the contents of the sachets in water.Place the contents of the sachets in a bucket containing at least 2 litres of water per sachet (water temperature: 15-20°C)

- Mix the contents well and leave to stand for five minutes.

- Stir again and pour the contents into the bucketinto the half-filled spray tank (unless tank mixing is done with a compatible product).

- Continuous mixing of the mixture in the tank (e.g. with a recirculation pump)

- Fill the spray tank with the required amount of water

- If mixing with a compatible productAdd Sportnem-H at the end to a fully filled tank.

- Apply immediately after preparing the spray solution

Application

- Application of nematodes can be done in a watering cansprayers, aerial sprayers, sprinklers, backpack sprayers or vehicle mounted spray units.

- To avoid cloggingAll filters must be removed, especially those finer than 0,3 mm (50 mesh).

- Use a maximum pressure of 20 bar/290 psi (at the nozzle)

- The nozzle orifice must be at least 0,5 mm (500 micron - 0,5 mm) 35 mesh) - preferably use high flow conical nozzle types.

- Continuous mixing should be ensuredto prevent nematodes from sinking to the bottom of the spray tank.

- Avoid sprayers with centrifugal or piston pumps

- The water tank is heatedtemperature should not exceed 25°C and the pH should be between 4 and 8.

- Even distribution of the spray liquid on the soil/medium surface

- Spray immediately after preparation of the solution and within a short time. Do not store mixed suspensions.

Dosage

Sportnem-H is typically applied at a rate of 2.5 billion (10*250M) nematodes per hectare. Usually two applications are required, with 3-4 weeks between treatments.

When to use:

The product can be used between 16 and 35 degrees C soil temperature, which in our country is usually from late May to September.

Product management

Storage time after receipt
