Stems do not branch, grow long, furrowed leaves. Flowers on sturdy stems form a funnel shape, clustered in clusters and opening from the bottom up. Swordflower flowers from spring to autumn, so that when new petals open, the old ones wither. The flowers are upright and sword-shaped. It is not winter hardy, so the tubers should be picked before frosts and overwintered in a cool place. Winter the cleaned tubers in a cool, airy place, preferably wrapped in paper. They can be planted continuously from mid-April to the end of May. When planted in the garden, the bulbs should be placed in the ground ten to fifteen centimetres deep. If there is enough rainfall in the spring, no watering is necessary, but if there is no natural rainwater supply, watering is necessary. In summer, you can help them to grow by feeding them with nutrient solution. The soil should be rich in nutrients and permeable. It prefers sunny places. After flowering, allow the plant to wither, do not cut the flower stems as they store nutrients in the tubers.
