Peanuts are a botanical speciality. It is an easy-to-grow annual plant. It requires loose, sandy soil with low peat content and a sunny, warm spot. The flowers are golden yellow, opening in just a few hours while they pollinate. After fertilisation, the fruiting shoots of the groundnut bend and elongate, releasing the young fruits into the soil, where they ripen after about 180-200 days. The ripe hazelnuts are dried in the oven (120-160 °C) for about 20 minutes, after which they are eaten by breaking the shell.
