MIMOSA
A genus related to Acacia, in the butterfly family, with about 480 species. Most of them are found in forests and dry savannahs in the southern USA, Asia and Africa.
Its leaves are bipinnate, with spines on the stems, and tiny white, pink or purple flowers. Their seeds are spiky, flat, splitting when ripe.

Cultivation: can be grown in well-drained, moderately fertile soil in a sunny, frost-free place.
Keep seeds in hot water for a short time before germination.
