Details
Carefully open up the passage away from the hike and place the trap in it when it is set. The trap is pulled up by hooking the safety pin into the plate so that the safety pin passed through the top of the trap does not allow the trap to collapse. The passage is then sealed with a light-tight seal (e.g. flowerpot, bucket, dark foil, etc...)
Check the trap at intervals. Use several traps for greater effectiveness.
