It can be planted in semi-shaded areas of the garden or in a window box, but also tolerates the sun well. Peronospora resistant varieties that can be grown successfully from seed. Nutrient rich, good water permeability, requires a moist soil mix. It is an annual when planted out, but can be overwintered indoors in pots.
