The origin of asparagus is not widely known: it is considered in most places to be Eurasian, but it was known to the ancient Greeks, who valued it mainly for its medicinal properties. Nowadays, the green variety is cultivated worldwide, not only because it is much simpler and requires less work, but also because it is much tastier and richer in nutrients than its white counterpart. Although its consumption is not yet well established in Hungary, green asparagus has many beneficial effects.
