European cypress (Cupressus sempervirens)
Contents of the sachet 2 g
This typically Mediterranean plant is cultivated as an ornamental or planted as a windbreak hedge. The small triangular scales of this tree with greyish-red bark are arranged in 4 rows in a paired, transverse arrangement, and are arranged in a tufted pattern, covering the entire branch. The leaves have no white markings; they have a sweet, resinous odour (Johnson, 2004).
The fruiting inflorescences develop into shiny golden-brown, walnut-sized cones when mature. The cone scales, with hooked tips, are fleshy and derescent green at first, then fade.
In its native habitat, it grows both broad-crowned and columnar varieties, the latter being the main variety offered by nurseries.
