Pampas grass (Cortaderia selloana)
Contents per sachet 0,1 g
Silver pampas grass, as the name suggests, is native to the pampas of South America. Nowadays it is grown in many places as an ornamental plant for parks and gardens.
This grass, which can grow up to 3 metres tall, has dense cattails. Its leaves are long and slender, usually 1 to 2 metres long and 1 centimetre wide; the edges are very sharp. The leaves are bluish-green, but can also be silvery-grey. The calyx inflorescences are 20-40 cm tall and white to dirty yellow in colour.
The silver pampas grass can grow in a wide range of soils and climates. It reproduces very well; a single specimen can produce up to 1 million seeds in its lifetime. This has made it an invasive species in some introduced places, such as New Zealand and South Africa. Burning does little harm to the plant as the fire does not reach its roots.
