It is a fast-growing, deciduous tree found in the USA from the Gulf of Mexico coast states from the Great Lakes region to the St. Lawrence River. It has a long, straight trunk and usually 4-lobed leaves that turn a deep yellow.
It reaches a height of up to 30m in natural conditions. Its leaves are large and its flowers are yellowish-green with orange-yellow at the base.
Their flowers are somewhat similar to tulips, hence the Hungarian name. The fruit is pinecone-shaped.

Minimum temperature: frost tolerant.

Cultivation. Requires shaping pruning in the spring to grow a single trunk. The wood is also used for furniture, pulpwood, plywood and other lumber, among other uses.
