The only species of the genus is a very slow-growing perennial cactus. It is a saguaro cactus, a very slow-growing, solitary cactus. It rarely branches and does not flower until it reaches a height of 4 m. They require plenty of sunlight and well-drained soil. Its short funnel-shaped, fleshy, white flowers develop in summer. It bears edible, sweet red fruit.


Minimum temperature : 7 °C.
Germination is easy, taking 1-2 weeks.
