Common name: Archontophoenix alexandrae, King palm.

Distribution: native to the tropical east coast of Queensland, Australia, forming dense stands.

Archontophoenix alexandrea is a majestic looking evergreen palm that once seen in the flesh is never forgotten. Its trunk is slightly bushy, pale grey, ringed at the base of a solid green crown trunk. The trunk of the palm has a very fine grain, almost 'essential'.
Its natural height can reach up to 30 m. The leaves are 2.5-3 m long, silvery white on the back. Flowers are cream-coloured. In our country, potted specimens are available. As this palm is not frost-tolerant, it should be grown outdoors in summer and in a conservatory or indoors in winter.

ARCHONTOPHOENIX
They are popular ornamental plants, because of their relatively fast growth and their smooth trunk after the old leaves have shed perfectly.
They thrive in full sun, are shallow rooted and require watering and thorough mulching in the dry season.
Their trunks are bare, leafless and the leaves are tight at the base. The large number of narrow leaflets, arranged in two rows, twist 90° from base to tip, so that the leaf blades at the end of the leaf are upright.
Their inflorescence develops in large numbers on the side of the trunk below the leaflets. Their flowers are creamy-pale lilac. The fruit is a round, red berry.

They can be damaged by woodlice.
The treatment is carried out using the general procedures for palms.

Minimum temperature : 10 °C
Sensitive to frost. Germination is easy and emergence is expected after 2 months.
