An evergreen species native to the Caribbean and from Central America to Brazil, it is a very fast-growing evergreen that can shed its crown for short periods. The crown is widely spreading, the leaves are double compound and the leaflets are small. It produces clusters of pinkish-pink flowers. Its seeds are blackish-brown and edible.
In our country it is also a favourite ornamental plant.
