A medium sized Caribbean tree with a domed crown and wing-like compound leaves 10-20cm long, consisting of 4-5 ovate leaflets. They develop in spring with small greenish-yellow flowers.
The wood was a popular raw material for the European cabinet-making industry in the 17th century. It is now a threatened species.
