Musella lasiocarpa, a fascinating species of banana found at a relatively high altitude of 2800m in Yunnan Province, China. The maximum height of the adult plant is 1.5 m.
When young, the rhizome of the banana forms many spikelets.
The famous flower of the banana appears in its 2nd year. Its colour is bright yellow, huge and it opens directly at the top of the trunk.
The banana that grows on it is regrettably inedible, 5 cm long and contains the pitch-black, shiny little seeds.
When placing the banana, note that it likes full sun and frequent watering. Its underground rhizome survives all cold winters, so it can be overwintered outdoors. It is one of the bananas that do well in a container, as it does not grow to a height of more than 1.5 m.
Minimum temperature : Frost tolerant.
Seed germination time: 1 to 3 months.
