Chamaerops humilis - dwarf horsehair palm - native to Southern Europe and North Africa. Its trunk grows up to 6 m tall and is covered with leaf debris and fibres. The leaves are fan-shaped, white scaly-hairy, with strongly toothed leaf petiole edges. The leaves can have very particular shades of colour. Evergreen palms planted for their appearance.

Evergreen palms with a deciduous stem, slow-growing. It has fan-shaped, 60 to 90 cm in diameter, palmate, greyish green leaves. It develops its yellow inflorescence in summer. The inflorescence appears between the petioles. The fruits are oval and about 2 cm long. Chamaerops humilis can tolerate partial shade. It is also a popular palm in our country, as it can be planted outdoors under winter cover.
It needs to be fed twice a month and once in winter.
It likes full sun and plenty of water, but do not stand the pots in water. Plant in nutrient-rich soil suitable for palms. It is sufficient to replant the palm every 2 to 4 years. For transplanting, use a soil mixture of 2/3 compost, 1/3 peat or potting soil mixed with sand. You can also mix a fertilizer with a long-lasting effect into the soil.
Water the potted specimens in a controlled manner when they are fully grown. Make sure that the pots are not standing in water.
Pot-grown specimens should be regularly fertilised and kept outdoors in the sun as long as possible in summer.
Repot in a bright and cool place. It does not do well in a warm room. It can be attacked by the weaver's mite.
