Apocynaceae
Common name: Plumeria rubra, Frangipani.
A well-known, intensely fragrant, popular plant with a wide variety of flower colours. The tree itself is unusual in appearance but is a common deciduous tree.
The branches of the Frangipani are perfectly straight, quite crowded and break easily. At the end of the break or where it is damaged, it exudes a white milky sap which is poisonous!
A deciduous shrub with fleshy branches, flowering in summer and autumn.
Natural height up to 6 to 8 m; in our country potted specimens are available. Since this shrub is not frost-tolerant, it should be grown outdoors in summer and in a conservatory or indoors in winter. Colour variations, not always obtained by vegetative propagation.
For good development, they need nutritious soil with good water management. Its growth is rapid, requiring full sunlight. Potted specimens should be watered lightly during the growing season and kept dry in winter. They need full sunlight! Cut back the shoot ends for denser branching.
Minimum temperature : 13 °C
Sensitive to frost. Germination is easy and emergence can be expected after 3-4 weeks.
