Presentation of the daisy:

A low, frost-tolerant spring flower. It can be planted in lawns to add a lush touch of colour to gardens and yards. Popularly known as the goose-flower, the daisy, or 'people's darling' as it is also known, flowers in meadows and along roadsides from March. The specimens that decorate balconies are already cultivated. Sow in June in a semi-shady position, scatter the seed on the soil surface and cover shallowly (0,5 cm).

What does a daisy look like?

Daisies are very low plants. Its leaves form a rosette close to the ground from which the flower stalks grow.Daisies flower outdoors from April to June. But indoors, in a pot or bowl, it flowers as early as March. Basket-flowering. Wild varieties have a yellow centre and white or pink petal edges. Breeding has produced plants with fuller inflorescences, ranging from white to pink to dark red. The daisy flower - bellis flower - blooms profusely in light and sun. At night and in rainy weather the flowers close. In frost, the plant should be covered.

Propagating daisies from seed or by cutting

Most large-flowered species can be propagated from seed, with sowing taking place in June/July. The plants will mature nicely by spring.

Germination time:

6-8 days. Sow the seeds in a box, cover with a thin layer of sand and place in a light place. At a temperature of 18-20 °C, the seeds germinate in 6-8 days. After 3-4 weeks, the plants are ready to be planted individually.

Protect from cold

Large flowered varieties are not quite winter-hardy. Young plants should therefore be covered in frost or the box placed in a cool, bright place in the house.

Transplanting:

Daisies can be transplanted at any time without the flower suffering. The daisy can be planted anywhere at any time and can be easily removed without disturbing it. It does not need to be pruned.

The flower is very suitable for decorating containers such as bowls, balcony boxes and pots. It looks particularly beautiful in a garden flower bed with other spring flowers.

Early flowering pompom

If you want your plants to bloom early, you need to ensure that they are completely frost-free. If the temperature is higher than 6-8°C in February, flowers that bloom in April-May will not be beautiful.

Small flowers can be propagated by division

Small-flowered varieties are better able to withstand the winter cold and can be treated like perennials. The division is done in August. Plants propagated in this way can be planted in pots or pots.

Problems, diseases

Leaf spot is a fungal disease that causes round or irregularly shaped spots on the leaves. They are brown or white in colour, often with red edges.
