This family includes cucumbers, asparagus, parsnips, pumpkins, courgettes, melons and watermelons. These plants require warmth and nutrients, like organic fertiliser and some species (cucumbers, pumpkins) thrive when grown on a support system. They are grown by planting, which can be done after the May frosts have passed. The male and female flowers develop separately on their shoots. The side shoots produce a larger number of female flowers, so that cutting back the main shoot produces a larger crop of cucumbers. Modern cucumber varieties are now predominantly female-flowered and parttenocarpic, so they can produce without pollination.

Patison Cucumber white

An indigenous type of corm for outdoor cultivation. Butter-coloured fruit weighing 1-1,5 kg, with white skin and flesh. Suitable for fresh consumption and pickling.

Sowing:

A heat-hungry plant, sow in the open field only after the danger of frost has passed, in V, at a depth of 3-5 cm. Planting by seedling increases the earliness and results in a balanced stand.

Seed requirements:

8-10g/10^m2. At reseeding, sow 2-3 seeds per cluster, which are then sown to 1-2 plants after emergence.

Spacing:

Spacing between rows: 100 cm, spacing between stems: 80 cm.

Harvesting:

July-August.
