Introducing the Nectar pumpkin:

Nectar pumpkin is a warm-loving, pear-shaped pumpkin variety with a pleasantly sweet, musky flavor.

It has a runner-shaped stem, a fruit about 30 cm long, with firm flesh and a small seed coat. The flesh is yellowish-orange in colour, with an aromatic fragrance.

The fruit weighs about 2,5 kg. It should not be picked early in the autumn, when it will keep for a relatively long time.

Nectar is an improved, tastier, more succulent variety.

The basic variety, the Nectar pumpkin, is widely known and cultivated throughout the world, on all five continents.

It is said to be one of the best pumpkins in the world, with an excellent nutty flavour, sweet, buttery, dense, orange flesh, and can be stored simply on the floor in the hallway for winter storage, but not as long as the old Hungarian varieties because its thinner skin is more susceptible to bacterial storage diseases.

It belongs to the muskmelon family. It is also called orange pumpkin, bécsitök, tamburatök or olastök. In Romania it is called doblec, in Transylvania it is also called úritök. Also known as hamkatök, bébitök. The shape of the pumpkin fruit is distinctive, with the end away from the stem widening. The flesh is bright orange from the abundance of carotenes.

Orange pumpkins are used almost exclusively in the form of pumpkins, which have almost completely replaced the pumpkin varieties.

The fruit has a sugar content of 5-6%, making it sweeter than the giant pumpkins, but it has a shelf life that is not even close. Their thinner skins make them less durable anyway, but they are also badly affected by certain bacterial diseases during storage, so they are best kept in small-scale storage until December at the latest.

They require high temperatures and good, nutritious soil.

When reseeded, its taproots are deep, reaching depths of 80-110 cm, and its shoot system is most similar to that of cucumbers. It can be grown with or without a support system. After sprouting, the ornamental grows to a height of about 30-40 cm, when it reaches this height it lays down.

Interestingly, the seeds in the cavity retain their ability to germinate for 7-8 years and germinate better in the second year than immediately after seed set.
